ẸWÁ ÍRÚN
Identity woven in hair
ẸWÁ ÍRÚN is a powerful photo book I made in collaboration with Olamide Ojegbenro, capturing the cultural significance and artistry of Black hair. This work highlights traditional hair sculptures, modern styles, and the profound connection between hair and identity. Divided into four segments—Heritage, Ritual, Emotionality, and Nouveau—the book delves into the historical, social, and emotional facets of Black hair, showcasing its roots in community, personal expression, and innovation. Through vibrant visuals and storytelling, ẸWÁ ÍRÚN celebrates the diversity and resilience of Black hair culture.
